5 ways to use baking soda as a natural remedy

How to use baking soda in the preparation of remedies

1.  Remedy for nasal congestion

Because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, sodium bicarbonate can be used as an ally to  clean and de-inflame the nasal passages in case of congestion or infections. It is only necessary to combine it with water.


  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda (1.2 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of water (10 ml)

What should you do?

  • Mix the baking soda with water and use a dropper to apply a couple of drops of liquid in each nostril.
  • Repeat its use twice a day.

2.  Remedy for insect bites

When going out to do outdoor activities it is good to carry a box of baking soda in case we suffer some bite of insects .  This is a natural painkiller that reduces the irritation and pain caused by bugs such as bees and ants.


  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda (20 g)
  • 4 tablespoons of water (40 ml)

What should you do?

  • Mix the baking soda with the water until you get a thick paste.
  • Then, apply it with a gentle massage on the affected area.
  • Let it dry and repeat its application if you consider it necessary.

3.  Remedy to relieve indigestion

Its digestive qualities are well known throughout the world and continue to be used for the relief of the symptoms of indigestion and ulcers. It is included in the catalog of natural products with alkaline properties and its consumption in small quantities is a way to control acidity .


  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)
  • 1 glass of water (200 ml)

What should you do?

  • Add the teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and consume it immediately.
  • Take it maximum twice a day, since in excess it can be harmful.

4.  Remedy for common burns

Using baking soda in case of burns is beneficial to protect the skin and accelerate its recovery.  Thanks to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, it calms irritation and creates a protective barrier against possible infections.


  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)
  • ½ glass of cold water (100 ml)

What should you do?

  • Dilute the baking soda in the glass of cold water and dip a soft cloth in the liquid.
  • Rub it with a circular massage and repeat its use up to three times a day.

5.  Remedy for sore throat

The antibacterial properties of this product help to reduce the presence of bacteria and viruses that cause infections in the throat. This effect is even greater when we combine it with the prodigious apple cider vinegar .


  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (5 ml)
  • ½ glass of warm water (100 ml)

What should you do?

  • Dilute the baking soda and apple cider vinegar in the glass of warm water.
  • Consume maximum twice a day.
