Natural treatments to fight styes

The stye is a painful lump that appears near the eyelid.  The elimination of this condition, in general, takes several days and occurs spontaneously.  However, there are some natural remedies that can help soothe the discomfort to fight styes as soon as possible.

What are styes?

Styes are a bulge formed in one of the eyelids of the eyes, often as a result of the inflammation of a sebaceous gland.  That small reddish grain at the base of the eyelashes is very annoying and, in most cases, it is difficult to eliminate.
It usually appears when something blocks one of the sebaceous glands in the eyelids, which encourages the multiplication of bacteria within it .  Its physical form is very similar to that of a common acne pimple, but the area it affects is very uncomfortable and unsightly.
In most cases, they can occur due to lack of hygiene.  For example, touching or rubbing the eyes with dirty hands, or not dusting the lenses.  If this is the trigger, it is most likely that there is an infection with the staphylococcus bacteria .
However, in smaller cases, the small inflammation can appear as a symptom of:
  • Anemia.
  • Diabetes.
  • Hormonal disorders.
  • Allergies
  • Thyroid problems.
  • Chronic ocular inflammations.

Natural treatments to fight styes

Hot compresses

The application of heat works as a good remedy to reduce inflammation in the affected area of the eye.
The heat should be applied by compresses with hot water.  The operation must be repeated several times a day to obtain good results.
Some people may think that applying cold has a similar effect.  However, as it is a small fat bulge, it is best to use heat to accelerate its maturation .

Chamomile

This plant has anti-inflammatory and refreshing compounds that can help decrease bumps and irritation .
Introduce a couple of teaspoons of chamomile in a cup of hot water, let it rest a little and apply it with a gauze or clean cloth on the affected area.
It should not be administered in cases of allergic conjunctivitis or hay fever .

Potatoes

The juice released by the potato when cut into slices can be very useful to combat styes .
Cut a potato in slices, take them to the refrigerator and, when they are cold, apply them on the irritated eyelids to lower the inflammation.

aloe vera

The juice of this plant has antibacterial compounds that can stop the action of staphylococcal bacteria to accelerate the recovery of the affected eyelid.
To take advantage of it you have to cut an aloe vera leaf and extract the pure gel that it contains inside.  Dip a piece of cotton in it and apply it directly on the small grain.

Horse tail

The infusion of horsetail has astringent and vulnerary properties that can diminish the action of the bacteria that cause the stye.
Prepare an infusion of the dried plant in a cup of water, dip a piece of gauze and apply it on the affected part.

Chard

The use of this plant can help accelerate the elimination of the stye, at the same time it reduces the annoying inflammation.
Heat a leaf of chard in a pot of water, strain the liquid and let the chard rest a little.  When it is warm, place it on closed eyelids for 10 minutes and repeat it 3 times a day.

Carrot

The warm carrot pulp can also be very useful to relieve their annoying symptoms and fight styes.
Put a liter of water to boil, add a few slices of carrot and let stand for 20 minutes to soften.  After the recommended time is put on closed eyes, letting them act for 10 minutes.

Important!

For no reason should you try to remove the stye , since the infection could spread to the rest of the eye.  It is best to wait for it to drain spontaneously.
Because it is a contagious condition, do not share towels, makeup items, or other items that can carry the bacteria to another person.
It is best to use disposable towels, and avoid using eye products because they can worsen the irritation.
In case the stye gets worse and it does not eliminate itself in a matter of days, it is best to consult the doctor.
